People Powered 24 Hour News and Breaking News Websites - News - Free Journalism

Fast and easily accessible internet access has resulted in the rapid growth of 24 hour news websites where breaking news is reported 'as it happens' by an increasing number of reporters (people powered).

A recent history of significant changes in 'communications'Many people reading this article may remember a time 'before mobile phones' when they could only make phone calls from a fixed line 'telephone' or 'cordless phones'.

Some thought they did not need a mobile phone, however today most people seem to have one. It is possible that the same will happen with mobile internet devices. These are bebecoming more popular and examples are the Ipad, note books, tablet pc's and mobile phones with fast and efficient internet access.

Predictions for the future. A 'Handset Data Traffic Forecast' predicts that handset generated data traffic will increase ten fold by 2015 and will account for 30% of the global network load whilst wireless dongles and mobile internet devices (including tablets) will generate the remaining 70%.Over the next 5 years, the growth in mobile data traffic will be driven by mobile web browsing (and video), and will account for 95% of total handset traffic by 2015. Internet News Websites are well placed to take advantage of this.

Previously news websites incorporated mobile phones using text and MMS and people could sent text and pictures directly websites for breaking news stories; examples are the Tsunami in Thailand and the London bombing. However there was no great enthusiasm for large numbers of people to be 'mobile phone reporters' due to the effort involved, text limitations, the lack of being able to write a proper story and the failure to give the 'news reporter' recognition; the mobile phone user also had to pay for the privilege.

The widespread use of the internet, laptops with wifi, wifi dongles, together with increasing numbers of Ipads, tablet pc's, note books and the latest mobile phones allows people to report news easily and gain recognition for their stories. There are already large numbers of 'internet reporters' who regularly post news as it happens.Internet technology together with the increasing use of mobile internet devices allows more people to send proper stories, either from home, work or on their mobile internet devices.

Breaking 24 Hour newsThe internet is ideally placed to be the best source for breaking 24 hours for various reasons

Easy 24 hours access

The number of available reporters

The locations of reporters (all over the world)

The ease at which news can be put on the new CMS (Content Management System) websites.

The willingness of people to submit stories to news sites with their name next to the story in the same was as authors submit articles to Internet magazines.

Users do not have to watch news they are not interested in while they wait for new news, which may or may appear. Many tv news viewers will have experienced watching the same news if they watch a television news channel for more than 30 mins.

Easy access to news that may have happened in the past. The search function on internet news web sites allows users to quickly search for relevant news.

ConclusionInternet News websites (e.g. Blottr)are likely to become the media medium of choice for young professionals and those who want to be able to select the relevant breaking news and 24 hour news, and are not interested in entertainment value (breakfast tv news) or political / editorial bias (some newspapers).
