*EUR/JPY* — failed to continue a rapid drop of the first half of
April and went sideways through the rest of the month. The monthly

16. Trading ended at 105.65 for this currency pair.

wing. The maximum level for this pair was at 133.24 on April 2, while

129.55 for GBP/JPY.

*
Fundamental background of the past month*

Greek debt contagion spread to Spain and other countries of South
Europe.
Markets reacted to talks about possible need of a new bail-out.
Additional
disadvantage for the euro was brought by the
French presidential elections
<http://www.topforexnews.com/2012/04/23/euro-down-on-pmi-concerns-about-french-elections/?utm_source=n201205&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=n201205>
,
showing little chance for the current president, Nicolas Sarcozy, to
win his
second term.

Great Britain pound turns out to be a major beneficiary of both the
improving
domestic macroeconomics and the troubles in the Eurozone.

Japanese yen continued to rise despite the
new efforts

by the Bank of Japan to
flood the currency markets with yen. There were concerns related to
the North
Korean space satellite launch, but they faded quickly after
it has failed
